the run
in 2008, 1 man will run for 5 days, covering 370kms, to raise $10,000 to fight cancer. Step up. Help him reach his goal.

the mission

Hi, I'm Shaun Brewster.

On Tuesday March 25th 2008, I will commence the journey towards my hometown Portland from Melbourne, on foot. The distance from the heart of Melbourne city to Portland is roughly 370kms. This distance equates to running roughly 2 marathons per day for 5 consecutive days. If all goes well, I will be home on Saturday March 29th 2008.

  • MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! The Long Run Home has been run and the fundraising target was completely obliterated. After initially aiming for $10,000 in donations, the result of $20,000 more than made up for the pain and long hours on the highway that Shaun and the crew had to endure. While Shaun accumulated a massive list of aches, pains and injuries over the 375 odd kms, he still says "It was easily the most amazing and rewarding experience of my life".

Everyone involved came away from the event with fond memories, new friends and a renewed passion for life. Several members of the support crew have even been inspired to try a Marathon later this year.

Shaun would like to thank everyone that has donated money and offered support and encouragement to himself and the crew along the way.

Stay tuned for the full story of the run which Shaun will be writing over the coming weeks.

Remember that there is still time to donate and your contribution will go to the very important cause of Cancer Research.

  • Federation Square has officially come on board to host the start of the Long Run Home. We will be in the square from 6:15am on the 25th of March for a 7am start. Thanks Fed Square for your assistance and support. We wish to invite anyone and everyone down on the morning of the 25th to witness the madness of a couple of guys about to run themselves into oblivion.

  • At the end of the run we will be hosting The Long Run Home-Coming Party at the Richmond Henty Hotel. There will be live music from the very talented Josh Rawiri and the long awaited performance from my equally talented sister, Leah Brewster. There will also be prize give-aways, nibbles and hopefully... a comfortable chair! Tickets are available for pre-purchase from the venue and on the night.

  • A big thank you to Shawn Lynch from Print-to-a-t for providing us with LRH t-shirts. We appreciate your generosity Shawn and will wear them with pride!

  • Surfside Park in Warrnambool has kindly donated our accommodation for the 3rd night of the run. It is going to be tough waking up the next day and having to leave such a nice spot. Thanks Surfside!

  • El Dorado Tourist Park in Geelong, has generously offered us sponsored accommodation during our stopover. I believe our gratefulness will be even more apparent, when the support crew and I roll up, road weary, searching for somewhere to lay our heads.

  • On the 1st of Febuary Gerard Coffey (my uncle) shaved off his beard for the first time in 32 years. His workmates at the National Bank donated money to see it come off and his boss who has been nagging him to shave it for years was only too happy to throw a few dollars in also. The bank also had a casual day the same day to raise some extra money. The current estimate on the amount raised on the day is $3000!. An amazing effort from Gerard who is also a key member of our support crew for the run.

  • On the 6th of January 2008, my Grandfather Neil Woodford lost his battle with cancer. He fought for so long and so hard, and in the end he passed with dignity. He was so proud and supportive of what we are doing with the Long Run Home, so now that he is gone, it has made me even more determined to make this a success. We will miss you Pa.

  • My long time running partner and great mate Chris O'Driscoll has volunteered to join me for the entire run as my 'Wing-man' to offer his physical and emotional support. Thanks Chris, this will be a great experience to add to our long list of adventures together.
